The Pony Express Expansion!
I'm going to try something different, and this is an announcement about that.
Greetings to all!
Thank you to every reader of the Pony Express—your interest and interactions are truly, truly appreciated!
Now to business. I started the Pony Express as a way to post the poetry I was writing, and I have done that. However, I have been torn recently between posting regularly to hit a deadline and posting poems that I actually believe are good and finished. I feel like the quality of my poems has been all over the place recently, which is frustrating, because I want to make sure that I am writing and publishing the best possible poems. One of the best things to do when editing is put the pen down and give yourself plenty of time to consider and meditate—time which I felt like I didn’t have because of the pressure to post regularly. Yet, I still wanted to post regularly and interact with the community of Substack. This left me in a bind.
I’ve decided to pivot the scope of this Substack from JUST poems to poems AND a weekly newsletter. This allows me to post weekly still (and forces me to write weekly) but I’m not suffering any existential dread about quality and merit. I will still be publishing poems, but they will be less frequent and when I feel that they are sufficiently edited and ready to go!
As to what these newsletters will be about, anything from a thought about a book I’m reading, to a soccer match I watched, to a conversation I had at work. The scope will be far reaching: religion, literature, dog-walking, running, jumping, poem-crafting. No matter what it is, I promise to do my best to ensure that the newsletter is thoughtful and well-written, and I know that over time both of those virtues will increase. This is also a way for me to organize my thoughts, try new things, and justg have fun! That being said, I love all feedback and interaction, so keep it coming!
I will post these newsletters every Monday at 12 PM. I hope you all enjoy them and I’m excited to see what this will become!
Best,
Samuel Quinn
